Slava Durak centres on the figure of Slava Polunin, one of the most famous Russian clown and performance artists, and founder of the Academy of Fools; indeed, ‘Durak’ is a term that in Russian means Fool.
The book portrays staged photographs of a hypothetical journey into Slava’s life, and plays with the contraposition of the protagonist undertaking everyday actions while surrounded by surreal, almost dreamlike settings.
